Judy Lea
Children’s
Author,
Educator,
Songwriter,
Storyteller
Judy Lea has been writing songs since she was 9. She won her first guitar in a jiving contest at the age of 15 and has been playing and writing ever since. She’s also an educator, a storyteller and an author! Judy published an illustrated children’s book called “Please Don’t Go in the Dryer” about a cute kitten (who is just a little TOO curious) and his overimaginative human!
In 2024, she created a new book for students and teachers called, “Green, Please!”along with an album of 10 original songs to help other educators find new ways to foster social and environmental consciousness in their classrooms.
About Judy
Judy Lea has been an educator of music, dance and drama since her children were very young. Between being a mother and teaching, she also worked as a children’s entertainer, using her storytelling, clowning, guitar playing and singing to delight kids and families at a wide variety of events. 20 years ago, she began teaching in public schools and currently, teaches private lessons and on-call in the Burnaby Public School System.
Judy has always been an environmentalist, even before it was ‘cool’, and a lot of her songs have lyrics that speak of caring for the Earth. She also has a highly developed sense of fun. “A sense of humour is one of the best ways to get a strong message across, even about something really serious like the need to deal with the Global Climate Crisis.”
Her first kids’ CD, “Too Much Work To Do”, was nominated ‘Best Children’s Album of the Year’ at the West Coast Music Awards way back in 1998. Her new album, “Green, Please!” was created to go with a book of the same name for teachers and students. It combines her knowledge as an educator with her sense of play and her passion for the planet, and all the beings who live on it.
She’s also been having fun creating YouTube videos to go with her songs, including a very silly stop-motion video for the fantastical, “Sea Monster Day Care”. You can see this and the other videos on her YouTube channel here.

Judy also writes/performs songs for people who used to be kids (and maybe still are. 🙂).
