Green, Please!

I just put the finishing touches on my new book for teachers: ‘Green, Please!’ It’s been a LONG journey, starting many years ago with writing songs for kids, recording them, and then creating an educational show for kids including those songs. Later, when I was a teacher and working on getting my degree, I used the songs to create a self-study project for the final credits I needed to get my degree. The project also used my experience as a teacher yearning to create learning experiences for my students that were meaningful, challenging, and fun. In the last year, I revisited the project, revised it, updated it and, with the help of my forever friend and cousin, Joni Miller, created a beautiful new book for teachers, using those songs, those ideas, and many new ones linking the songs to the elementary curriculum. The result:

Green, Please! Songs and Learning Activities for Socially Conscious Students.

The book includes musical charts for most of the songs (for those who read music) and QR codes linked directly to the recording or YouTube video of the song, if there is one. (Watch for new videos coming up on my YouTube channel this year!) All songs are rooted in environmental or social issues near and dear to my heart (and hopefully yours!) but most have a very playful element as well.

Along with every song, there are many suggested learning activities to go directly with or inspired by the songs, in almost every area of the elementary curriculum: art, music, drama, science, math, language arts, social studies, and even physed!
